Bassbariton

The bass-baritone Yisae Choi, born in 1992 in Cheongju, South Korea, graduated from Kyung Hee University in 2016. In this period he sang the role of Colline in Gioachino Puccini’s “La Bohème”. Since the summer semester 2018 he has been studying singing with a focus on opera and concert at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim with Prof. Snezana Stamenkovic. During his studies he won a special award at International Opera Competition "Rita Gorr 2019" in Belgium and received the 2nd prize at "Anneliese Rothenberger Competition 2019" in Germany. The 1st prize at the international singing competition "Immling" in Germany and the special prize 'Premio Eva Kleinitz' at the international singing competition “CLIP Portofino” in Italy followed. Most recently he premiered as Aeneas in "Dido and Aeneas" by Henry Purcell in the Saalbau Neustadt in Spring 2021. In the season 2021/22 Yisae Choi became a member of the NRW Opera Studio.
