Born in Limoges (France), the singer Margot Genet studied singing and violoncello in her hometown, before she continued her studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève as well as, from 2019, at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Elisabeth Werres. Furthermore, she participated in masterclasses with Helen Donath, Hedwig Fassbender, Elène Golgevit, Regina Werner and Ludovic Tézier. During her studies, she already performed as Drusilla in “L’incoronazione di Poppea”, Susanna in “Le nozze di Figaro”, Elle in “La voix humaine” und Flora in “The Turn of the Screw”. From the season 2019/20, she was a member of the opera studio at the Opéra de Lyon for two years where she represented roles like Ygraine in „Ariane et Barbe-Bleue“, directed by La Fura dels Baus, Poussette in Massenets “Manon” and several roles in Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges”. At the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées as well as the Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman), she gave guest performances. In 2021, she sang Poppea in Handel’s “Agrippina” as a fellow of the Fondation Royaumont.
Margot Genet won numerous competitions and scholarships, such as the “Concours Corneille“, International Baroque Music Competition, one at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg and the Opéra Comique where she was granted the “Malvina und Denise Menda” award. As a soloist in concerts, she performed, among others, with Fauré’s “Requiem”, songs of Aribert Reimann as well as a world premiere of Alexander Muno’s “Vier Grabinschriften von Nelly Sachs” at the Akademie der Künste in Hamburg. Together with her duo partner since 2016, the pianist Justine Eckhaut, she has already performed their large repertoire from Mozart to Messiaen in the Concert Hall "Amici del Loggione del Teatre alla Scala". Before Margot Genet started her engagement at the Opernstudio NRW in 2021, she was a member of the Académie Philippe Jaroussky.
