Born in Ikast (Denmark), Bo Skovhus studied at the Conservatory in Aarhus, at the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen, and in New York. Vienna, where his career began in 1988 at the Volksoper, is still his artistic home. He maintains a close relationship to the Vienna State Opera, the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus, in opera as well as a concert and lieder singer. His vast operatic repertoire ranges from Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Conte Almaviva, Tchaikovky’s Eugene Onegin to the big roles in Wagner’s operas such as Wolfram, Kurwenal, Beckmesser and Amfortas to Viennese operetta. He is particuarly successful in portraying roles from 20th century operas, such as Reimann’s Lear, Berg’s Wozzeck, or, most recently, Krenek’s Karl V. Apart from his performances in the major opera houses in Europe, America and Japan, Bo Skovhus devotes himself intensively to lied singing. He is regularly invited to the most famous music centres and festivals worldwide and has worked with pianists such as Helmut Deutsch, Andreas Haefliger, Yefim Bronfman, Leif Ove Andsnes, Christoph Eschenbach and Daniel Barenboim. Bo Skovhus has recorded many of his central opera roles, as well as a wide variety of concert pieces and lieder.
